Preparation of Presorted Mail
Presorted mailings are brought to the mailroom for postage to be applied. Permit 57 does not apply to presort mail.
The Presorted First-Class rate applies to pieces in a mailing of 500 or more individually addressed pieces that are sorted and trayed to 5 digit and 3-digit ZIP Codes and to ADCs AND Mixes-ADCs and meet other requirements for the Presorted rate.
All supplies needed for mailings will be provided by the Campus Mailroom with advance notice.
The envelopes must have the return address as

Each piece must weigh 13 ounces or less and the same size (all letters, or cards etc).
The delivery address on each piece must include a correct ZIP Code
Be sure all addresses face the same direction in the bundle. There must be 10 or more pieces to a bundle and the bundle can be up to 6" in dept.
Sort and bundle according to the following directions:
- Sort all letters by 5 digit ZIP code.
Put all like 5 digit zip codes together. Count and write the number of pieces in the bundle in the lower left-hand corner of the top piece of mail. There must be at least 10. Place a red "D" sticker by the delivery address on the top piece of mail. Band together 2 ways with wide, heavy rubber bands that are furnished by the Campus Mailroom. Stickers are also furnished by the Mailroom. - Sort remaining letters by the first 3 digits of the ZIP code.
Group these together by the first 3 alike numbers, example put all 730's, 735's etc. together. Count and write the number of pieces in the bundle in the lower left-hand corner of the top piece of mail. There must be at least 10. Place a green "3" sticker by the delivery address on the top piece of mail. Band together 2 ways with wide, heavy rubber bands. - Sort remaining letters numerically by the ZIP code using form L004.
Group the remaining letters by Form L004, these need to be in numerical order. This is very important. Count and write the number of pieces in the bundle in the lower left-hand corner of the top piece of mail. There must be at least 10. Place a pink "A" sticker by the delivery address on the top piece of mail. Band together 2 ways with wide heavy rubber bands. - Sort remaining letters numerically by the ZIP code.
Group remaining letters numerically by the zip code. Count and write the number of pieces in the bundle in the lower left-hand corner of the top piece of mail. There must be at least 10. Place a brown "MS" sticker by the delivery address on the top piece of mail. Band together 2 ways with wide heavy rubber bands.
The bundles now need to b placed in separate trays. The trays are provided by the Mailroom. Please let us know a couple of days in advance so we can prepare. Place all the "D"s in a tray by themselves, all the "3"s in a tray and all the "A"s in a tray and all the "MS"s in a tray. Remember within each tray, the letters must be in zip code order.
Please bring the mailing to the Campus Mailroom at least one day in advance of the mailing date. Be sure to include your permit form with the appropriate signatures. All student organizations or grant accounts must have the sponsor's signature on the forms.
