RAVE Alert Implementation Plan 2024
To provide clear and comprehensive information to the SWOSU community, the key details of the Rave Mobile Safety implementation are below.
- Purpose and Importance:
- SWOSU is implementing the Rave Mobile Safety Platform to more quickly and more broadly communicate emergency messages that impact the safety and operations of SWOSU.
- Once fully implemented, the Rave Mobile Safety Platform will provide the ability to communicate on a broader number of platforms in real-time.
- Notification Methods:
- SWOSU’s implementation of Rave Mobile Safety will take place in two phases, and each phase will activate the following notification methods:
- Phase 1: SWOSU email addresses and student and employee cell phone numbers
- Phase 2: SWOSU-owned computers for desktop alerts, SWOSU’s supported social media platforms, the SWOSU website, digital signage, and other platforms. During phase two, SWOSU will also educate the campus community on the Rave Mobile Safety App and its features.
- Testing Schedule:
- All test messages from Rave Mobile Safety will start with the phrase: “TEST ALERT:”
- SWOSU will conduct phase 1 tests of the Rave Mobile Safety on the following dates:
- January 16, 2024, at Noon
- January 23, 2024, at Noon
- January 30, 2024, at Noon
- If you do not receive the test messages that will be sent on the schedule outlined above, please complete the form at this link: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/4ef6222cd7bc4bfca3b84170592acd8d
- Types of Emergencies Covered:
- SWOSU will utilize the Rave Mobile Safety platform to send messages related to campus emergencies, lockdowns, weather closings, and severe weather alerts.
- Opt-In and Opt-Out Procedures:
- Given the importance of emergency alerts for campus operations and safety, all swosu.edu email addresses have been loaded into Rave Mobile Safety, and student and employee cell phone numbers previously used to receive verification text messages in SSO have been loaded into Rave Mobile Safety.
- This system will be a key element in SWOSU’s overall campus safety messaging and planning. SWOSU encourages all students, faculty, and staff to participate in receiving these critical messages. However, if you wish to opt out of receiving these messages on your cell phone, reply STOP to one of the text messages sent through Rave Mobile Safety.
- Training and Awareness:
- SWOSU Information Technology Services will have tables set up in the Bulldog Beanery and the SWOSU Bookstore during the first week of classes (1/16 to 1/19) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During these times, IT will answer questions about the new Rave Mobile Safety platform and can assist with enrolling students, faculty, and staff who did not receive the test messages.
- Accessibility Considerations:
- To ensure that SWOSU emergency alerts are accessible to the entire campus community, all messages will be sent as both written and voice alerts. Cell phones will receive both written text messages and voice alerts to user’s cell phone numbers.
- Privacy and Data Security:
- SWOSU will only use the Rave Mobile Safety platform to send emergency alerts or messages regarding impacted campus operations.
- The Rave Mobile Safety platform will NOT be used for any marketing or promotional messaging.
