Working in the Center
While English and communications majors are often well suited for Writing Center work, we would like to have tutors from many disciplines, broadening our knowledge base in the special kinds of writing required in various fields.
If you are interested in becoming a Writing Center consultant, please ask Natasha Tinsley about the peer tutoring course offered each spring and fall semester (ENG 4013). This course provides the necessary composition theory and practical experience required for all writing consultants.
Students who have taken the course have stated that the course helped them with their own writing. The course is a good resume item because it provides techniques for working one-on-one with people, a necessary skill in almost all work environments.
Taking the peer tutoring course will not guarantee employment in the Writing Center, but it is a requirement for consideration.
