CENTER FOR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING COUNSELING SERVICES
MISSION STATEMENT
The SWOSU Counseling Center provides comprehensive mental health services at Southwestern Oklahoma State University within the Division of Student Affairs. Our mission is to provide high quality counseling and crisis intervention to our campus community members, consultation, and overall health and wellness resources. We strive to promote the psychological wellbeing of all members of the university community to foster a rich and meaningful campus life experience. We remain committed to the practice of psychology as governed by applicable professional ethics codes and by federal and state laws.
The Center for Health and Well-being provides free counseling services to all SWOSU
students. Counselors continue to provide clinical services virtually and in person
from 8am-5pm (CST), Monday to Friday. This includes counseling intakes, individual
counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention.
You can check our SWOSU Health Counseling website including the Stepped Care Model to see all the services and resources available.
Our approach provides flexible access to wellness and mental health resources. We
recognize that a student is flourishing when they are healthy in all aspects of their
life. Stepped Care gives individuals the opportunity to step their care up, or step it down, depending
on their health needs. It is an individualized approach.
You can begin the process for counseling services by calling Susan Ellis, Director, at 580-774-6039, emailing susan.ellis@swosu.edu, or completing the Inform Consent for Services and Intake Packet on our website and returning either in person or via email. You can also walk into our office and complete all the forms. Our office is located in the glass door to the right of the entrance to the Wellness Center. When all forms are received, we will schedule your first counseling appointment.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency during our non-business hours, please contact 911, call campus police at 580-774-3111, or go to your local emergency room.
