Official SWOSU Colors

Primary and Secondary Colors

SWOSU’s brand colors establish the foundation of our visual identity. They must be applied consistently across all platforms to ensure recognition and cohesion.

Primary Colors (Core Identity):

Note: The secondary colors are reserved for use by SWOSU Public Relations & Marketing (PRMKT). Units must request permission from PRMKT to use these colors. Both accents should be applied equally in design work; do not favor one accent color over the other. They serve as supporting colors only and are not considered official school colors.

Usage Rules for Print and Digital

Contrast & Accessibility:

In accordance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards:

  • Body text must maintain at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio with its background.
  • Large text (18 pt or 14 pt bold) requires a minimum 3:1 contrast ratio.
  • Avoid placing text over busy images or low-contrast backgrounds unless a solid overlay is used.

Color Pairing:

  • Primary blues and grays should dominate SWOSU designs.
  • Secondary accents may be used sparingly to add contrast, highlight key information, or support design balance.
  • Accent colors should never overpower the primary palette or be mistaken as official school colors.
  • Ensure adequate white space around color applications to preserve clarity and accessibility.

Summary: SWOSU’s updated color system strengthens brand recognition while addressing past challenges with contrast and accessibility. Primary blues and grays remain the heart of the identity, while red and wheat accents provide strategic flexibility when used under PRMKT guidance.
